NEWS RELEASE

November, 2009

CS Consulting Corp and the Idaho State Department of Education team up to continue education to keep kids safe in school

CS Consulting Corp, and the Idaho State Department of Education announced today that it will begin the rollout of its continuing education on Emergency Operations Planning Guide which will provide security and safety training for all of the school districts in Idaho.

In August 2007, with the support of the Idaho Legislature, the Department of Education authorized The Safe and Secure Schools Assessment in Idaho. The assessment, which surveyed 520 school principals and 92 district superintendents across Idaho, was completed in November 2007 and produced an accurate and comprehensive picture of the current security profile of Idaho schools. This independent assessment revealed troubling information that requires immediate action to correct.

"The current state of safety and security across Idaho K-12 public schools is inadequate, and is a clear concern among administrators, staff and parents", said Tom Luna, Superintendent of schools for State of Idaho. If the current state of safety and security is left unchanged, the odds increase daily that an incident may occur in an unsecured school, and the state of Idaho may be found in breach of providing an adequate level of safety and security. With the development and rollout of the Emergency Operations Planning Guide we are taking clear action to address these gaps."

"It is imperative that our school districts improve their ability to respond in disaster and disaster threat situations" said Matt McCarter, Director of Safe and Drug Free Schools for Idaho. "We partnered with CS Consulting Corp to develop the Emergency Operations Planning Guide. This allows districts to establish a set of predetermined actions that will streamline decision-making during response and recovery phases of a damaging event. By reducing the number and magnitude of decisions to be made, school personnel will be able to reduce harm caused by time delays, resume critical services and return to normal school activities at the earliest possible time".

Regional training events will occur over the course of the next 3 months as follows:

  • Plummer
  • Twin Falls
  • Boise
  • Introduction and navigation of the SDE's new school safety product website
